Fast Company magazine’s feature article on “15 Tech Scenes in Places You’d Never Think to Look” showcases 15 surprising cities where tech is thriving.
Greenville, SC, is one of those cities, boasting $1.1 billion in new capital investments and creating more than 6,000 new jobs in the last five years alone. Much of that activity is rooted in a new generation of tech businesses.
One of the fantastic things about Greenville—and the Southeast in general—is the better work/life balance the region provides for employees.
“The best Southern start-ups value company culture, organic growth, and work/life balance over fast exits and gaudy IPOs—and that’s exactly why they succeed,” argues David Cummings, CEO of the Atlanta-based marketing software firm Pardot, in a companion Fast Company article entitled, “How Southern Tech Workers Build Booming Businesses and Still Go Home at 5.” Compare that to the “always on” mentality of California’s Silicon Valley, a demanding work style Laura and I had become far too familiar with before relocating to Greenville, SC.
