The Swamp Rabbit Trail, ranked #3 Best Urban Trail by USA Today, is one of the reasons Laura and I moved to Greenville, SC. When deciding where to retire, we knew we wanted a place that would support an active and healthy lifestyle. Having access to an in-town recreational trail makes it easy for us to stay fit.
The Swamp Rabbit Trail (SRT) extends nearly 20 miles from downtown Greenville to the city of Travelers Rest. The multi-use trail is perfect for running, walking, and biking. Part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, which converts abandoned railroad tracks into trails, the paved path follows the flow of the Reedy River and the route of the old Swamp Rabbit Railroad.
Sites between Greenville and Travelers Rest include the Greenville Zoo, Cleveland Park, Falls Park on the Reedy, and Furman University (which features public restroom facilities and lakeside picnic areas). Both downtown Greenville and Travelers Rest offer many dining options as well as public restroom facilities.
